Terminology:

Beta indicates an experimental release, which may have significant major bugs and is not suitable for use on production sites. A limited number of testers use this version for testing.

Gold indicates the first version that we release to the general public after the beta process is complete.

A Service Pack is a version released after the Gold release, containing fixes for bugs found in the Gold version but no new features.
